"Porcelain in the Royal Collection at Rosenborg Castle"

About the talk: After a short presentation of the Royal collection and the castle this talk will narrow to discuss specificly porcelain in the collection. First of all the two major Danish services  - the Flora Danica service which was originally to be a gift to Katherine the Great of Russia and was retained by the Danish royal family when Katherine died before it was completed and the Juliane Marie service. The talk will also include discussion of a 17th century room, decorated with chinese porcelain-figures probably from as early as the 1660's, and a reconstruction of the original setup made recently, since all the figures are still preserved but had been been moved to other locations.

 

About the speaker: Peter Kristiansen graduated in 1988 from the Architect school at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts with a Masters in Nordic Architectural History and Buildings Archaelogy. He was employed from 1988 until 1991 as curator at the National Museum of Denmark, in the Department of Danish History 1000-1660 AD. His special area of curatorial interest was Medieval Churches. Since 1992 he has been employed as curator at The Royal Danish Collections, Rosenborg Castle. He works with the building history and use of the historic castle, heraldy, genealogy and has wide interests within the decorative arts and cultural history.
