About our speaker:
Ron Fuchs is curator of the Reeves Collection at Washington
and Lee University. He is a graduate of the College of William
and Mary and the Winterthur Program in Early American Culture.
He has worked at Independence National Historical Park, the New
York Historical Society, and, most recently before assuming his
current position, asÝAssociate Curator of Ceramics for
the Leo and Doris Hodroff Collection at Winterthur Museum.
About the talk:
This talk will provide an overview of one of the finest collections
of Chinese export porcelain currently in existence. The collection,
which contains pieces made as early as 1550 and as late as 1850,
covers the full history of Chinese export porcelain and of the
China Trade from its inception in the early sixteenth century
through the nineteenth century. The collection was built by Leo
and Doris Hodroff of Minneapolis over the last forty years. They
have generously shared part of their collection with the Winterthur
Museum, which mounted a traveling exhibit and published a catalog
on the collection.
Next meeting: Sunday, 11th May 2008. Members only tour of
a collection of Chinese Ceramics
