About the Lecture: This illustrated talk will discuss the production, distribution and collection of ceramics with blue decoration from the introduction of blue decorated porcelain in China in the 14th century, through the development of comparable technologies in the West, and the eventual adoption of transfer printed blue pottery as the china of choice of the emerging middle class resulting from the industrial revolution.

About the Speaker: Colin Knight is President of the San Francisco Ceramic Circle and a collector of many types of ceramic but with a special interest in the products of the smaller German Factories of the 18th century. He is retired from work in Silicon Valley where he held the position of Research Director for a major semiconductor company. His interest in ceramics stems originally from an interest in ceramic technology formed during his teens and subsequently reinforced by marriage to Pat with her interest in English pottery and her opening of Patrician Antiques with ceramics as an area of specialization.

Mini exhibit: Please bring examples of blue decorated pottery and porcelain from any country and any time period.

Next meeting: Thursday, 19th April 2001.
