Vienna Porcelains of the du Paquier Period 1718-1744

The September meeting of the San Francisco Ceramic Circle
will be held on Thursday, 24th September beginning at 7.30pm in
the Florence Gould Theater at the Palace of the Legion of Honor
in Lincoln Park, San Francisco. Entrance is from the West terrace.
The lecture will start at 8.00pm.
Our speaker will be Ghenete Zelleke, Curator of European Decorative
Arts at the Art Institute of Chicago. Her lecture is entitled
"Vienna Porcelains of the du Paquier period 1718 - 1744".
The mini-exhibit will be 18th century Austrian and German
porcelain . Set up is at 7.30pm
About the lecture:
Claudius du Paquier founded a porcelain manufactory in Vienna
in 1718 with the help of absconding workers from Meissen thus
becoming the seconffactory in Europe to make hard paste porcelain.
This lecture will review the range of porcelains produced by this
factory during the brief history of du Paqier's control, a range
showing both great sophistication and charming naivete and will
also discuss the variety of Eastern and European influences on
du Paquier and the products of his manufactory.
About our speaker:
Ghenete Zelleke has recently been appointed Curator of European
Decorative Arts at the Art Institute of Chicago after seven years
as Associate Curator. Ms. Zelleke a B.A. and an M.A. from Cambridge
University, England and an M.A. from the Cooper-Hewitt Museum-
Parsons School of Design in New York and has worked on the curatorial
staff of the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh and the Saint
Louis Art Museum prior to joining the Art Institute of Chicago.
Ms. Zelleke has curated many exhibits, has numerous publications
to her credit and has lectured extensively on ceramics and other
topics.
