BRITISH POTTERY : CHILDREN'S WARES

 Often printed and with added color Children's plates and mugs were made in large numbers during the 19th century but inevitably few have survived.

Decorated with animals & birds, occupations & games as well as morals & proverbs they provided an opportunity to educate as well as amuse.

In the early years the wares were well made but later became cruder as they were quickly produced.

Few were marked. They were made in Staffordshire, Sunderland and Wales
